In America we have a tradition of peaceful elections that give voice to the people. Today, the people’s voices were heard, and I am honored that so many North Carolina voters saw fit to send me to represent them in Washington.
I’m particularly grateful for my family’s unflagging support, my hard-working staff, the countless faithful volunteers and the many others who lent a hand along the way. Without this group of dedicated people, today’s win would not have been possible. This victory is the fruit of much work and many people deserve to share in celebrating our decisive win.
As we look to a new Congress, North Carolinians can know that I will work hard on their behalf to see to it that Washington’s spendthrift ways are brought under control. Our nation faces very real challenges that we cannot ignore: our national debt grows at a record pace, millions are without jobs, and many have lost faith in their government’s ability to balance its budget.
This election sent a clear message. Voters are tired of the ever-increasing size and cost of the federal government and its far-flung powers. They’ve had enough of federal solutions that lock states, localities and individuals in the back seat.
It’s time to bring some restraint to Washington. By giving power back to the people we can recapture the Founders’ vision of limited-government that still resonates with freedom-loving people to this day.
So it is with great excitement and a still greater sense of responsibility that I prepare to bring time-tested North Carolina values to the Capitol and make Washington listen to the voters.
